FORT HOOD, Texas – Fort Hood officials have released the name of a soldier who was found unresponsive in his residence April 30 in Copperas Cove, Texas. Coryell County Justice of the Peace John Guinn pronounced him deceased the same day.
Sgt. Able Felipe Duran, 47, whose home of record is listed as Colorado Springs, Colo., entered the military in December 1992 as a signal support systems specialist, and was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade, Fort Hood, since March 2011.
Duran’s awards and decorations include the NATO Medal, Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with silver loop, National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, Korea Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the Drivers/Mechanics Badge and the Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge.
The cause of death is under investigation.
