FORT HOOD, Texas -- This week, more than 5,500 III Corps soldiers and civilians are preparing for a different kind of conflict. One that is much broader in scope than current insurgency operations.

The III Corps Warfighter Exercise is the first corps-level full-spectrum unified land operations training exercise in ten years for the Army.

During the last 10 years, the Army's focus has centered on conducting counterinsurgency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This exercise is designed to exercise III Corps’ mission command functions and systems and help set the conditions for the execution of future operations.

It is a computer-based and driven simulation involving soldiers and civilians from 17 different units from across the U.S. The units participating include III Corps, 101st Airborne Division and the Army National Guard’s 28th and 35th Infantry Divisions. Soldiers at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., are also participating via tactical networks.

Media interested in attending the Warfighter Exercise Media Day at 1:30 p.m. June 18 should register here. During the event, media will witness an exercise Pentagon Press Brief by the III Corps commanding general, which will be followed by an actual press conference at 2:10 p.m. on the exercise and how the Army's focus has begun to change.

Reporters will be able to ask questions of the commanding general and will also interview Col. Charles E.A. Sexton, Commander of the Mission Command Training Program, in charge of directing the exercise.

Media planning to cover this event should register here. The gate time is 1 p.m. and the event should conclude by 3 p.m. Media should meet the public affairs escort in the Southside parking lot of the Fort Hood visitors center.

B-roll and a factsheet on today's Warfighter Exercise Press Conference is available at http://www.forthoodpresscenter.com/go/doctype/3439/127403/.
