    KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces arrested an Afghan National Army deserter turned Taliban insurgent in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, yesterday.

    The deserter stole equipment belonging to Afghan security forces and, prior to his arrest, was planning to attend Taliban bomb-making training in Pakistan.

    The Afghan and coalition security force found the deserter in a village in Khugyani. They detained one other suspected insurgent during the operation.

    An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during an operation to arrest an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader in Kunduz district, Kunduz province, today. The IMU leader is an explosives expert who specializes in making suicide and improvised explosive devices for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Kunduz.

    South

    An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to arrest a Taliban explosives specialist in Zharay district, Kandahar province, today. The Taliban explosives specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the region. During the operation numerous suspected insurgents were detained.
