KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces arrested an Afghan National Army deserter turned Taliban insurgent in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, yesterday.
The deserter stole equipment belonging to Afghan security forces and, prior to his arrest, was planning to attend Taliban bomb-making training in Pakistan.
The Afghan and coalition security force found the deserter in a village in Khugyani. They detained one other suspected insurgent during the operation.

The Taliban explosives specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the region. During the operation numerous suspected insurgents were detained.
