SAN DIEGO-- A group of America’s finest fighting force tucked away their camouflage utilities for wet suits, surf boards and camera gear to film their big dreams for a good cause.
“We really are living some people’s dreams,” said Caraway. “Some people do cool stuff in junior high school and high school and quit when they get older. But, we keep it going with some things that people might say are risky, like surfing and cliff diving.”
Almost every weekend Sgt. Jeffrey Caraway, the graphic chief with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and an Adrian, Mont., native, and his ‘crew’ of Marines partake in action sports such as surfing, cliff diving, slack-lining and mountain biking to film and produce a DVD, entitled “Literally Living the Dream.”
The DVD is planned to be a full-length, demonstration-style film. Caraway’s childhood love for horses and his love for thrill-seeking inspired his choice for donating.
One hundred percent of the proceeds made from the DVD and accompanying t-shirts, created by Caraways clothing company, Lele Kawa, will be donated to Path International, a horseback-riding therapy for the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
With a goal of $10,000 to donate, the Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif. and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., have been working for the past three months to complete the DVD with plans to finish it in December, explained Staff Sgt. James Delecki, an air traffic control maintenance work center supervisor with Marine Air Control Squadron 1 and a West Seneca, N.Y., native and Caraway’s right-hand man.
Caraway and his crew finance the project mostly out-of-pocket and produce it in their free time.
The completion of the “Literally Living the Dream” is being made by the weekly dedication of thrill-seeking Marines and through donations from Wind an’ Sea Surfboards and Caraway’s t-shirt company.
The Marines have set out to remind people to keep doing what they love, explained Delecki.
Even after the DVD is produced, they hope to keep inspiring people to live their life to the fullest and to dream big.
