BUSAN, South Korea - The 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command held the media day to open the port operations of loading new equipments to the public at Pier 8 in the port city of Busan on Sept 26.
Sixteen reporters from different media outlets including major broadcasting companies in Korea were authorized to report the event to their media stations.
Having transported from the U.S. Central Command, MRAPs, Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, were loaded onto trucks to move up north to Material Support Center - Korea at Camp Carroll and to 2nd Infantry Division Brigade Combat Team at Camp Casey.
“These MRAPs will increase the capabilities of our commanders to transport soldiers and give them the necessary protection to accomplish their mission.” said Lt. Col. Christopher W. Abbott, 837th Transportation Battalion commander.
Following the opening remarks by Abbott, reporters were allowed to take photos of the MRAPs as they are loaded on vehicles and interview him under the control of the 19th ESC staffs.
“It was interesting to see how new vehicles from overseas are placed on the Korean peninsula as a protective measure,” said Park Ji-yong, a reporter from one of the media outlets. “And it was a great opportunity to inform the public about the missions the U.S. Army has been conducting so far.”
After a series of technical inspections starting at Pier 8, the MRAPs in Korea will be used for training and will be part of prepositioned stockpiles to provide combat sustainment capabilities to the receiving units by their mission requirements.
