The DVIDS Journalist of the Month for April, Sgt. Tammy Hineline puts her combat camera skills to use in coverage of Marines in Afghanistan. Hineline, who is deployed with Regional Command Southwest, outpaced the other military journalists during the month with the quality of her photography combined with the scale of local, national and military-centered media placements.

"Sgt Tammy Hineline is a true Combat Camera Marine, showing proficiency across every media specialty. She has been an incredible asset to the Regional Command by producing professional and impactful imagery," said Maj Brandon Brooks, Information Operations Officer with RCSW. "Her imagery has been renowned by thousands of media outlets leading to a greater awareness of the unit's activities."

Hineline's images had just shy of 600 downloads and 3,443 views for the month. All totaled her images reached more than 14.7 million via the numerous media outlets that ran her images. Some of the outlets included Yahoo!, Military Times and Mother Jones.

One of her standout shots is a photo of U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Robert Fraser providing security while an MV-22 Osprey lands at Camp Leatherneck. It also caught the eye of the Navy Times, Leatherneck Magazine and Stars and Stripes, which ran the photo. Yahoo! En Espanol picked up Hineline's photo of the flags at Camp Leatherneck being lowered to half-mast in remembrance of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Several of Hineline's images in the gallery "Counter Improvised Explosive Device Training" highlight her technical photography skills and were picked up by other media outlets.

Hineline has caught attention outside of just the military and mainstream media world.

"She was recently contacted by PocketWizard, a company that produces remote flash devices, for her exemplary work while using the device. Sgt Hineline creates imagery that rivals even the most competitive professionals and her work is an inspiration to all Combat Camera Marines."

In the past year, Hineline has been among the top journalists for her video and images several times, but for April she was the DVIDS top journalist of the month. show less
