[9] New Jersey Army National Guard trains on shotguns
The shotgun has always had a colorful aura about it, bringing to mind stagecoach robbers of the Old West. When American Soldiers began to adopt modified civilian shotguns for trench warfare in the First World War, they appreciated the simple but powerful weapon's ability to clear enemy bunkers and trenches. After seeing how effectively a shotgun can clear or "sweep" enemy positions, they nicknamed them "trench brooms." Many of the original hastily adapted civilian models from 1917 served on into the Korean and Vietnam Wars. (03/7/10)

[4] Old Crows honor 56th Stryker Soldiers with electronic warfare award The 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade, received the "Association of Old Crows Outstanding U.S. Army Electronic Warfare Unit Award for 2009." The Old Crows is an international association of civilian and military electronic warfare professionals. The Crows bestow this annual award on an Army unit that demonstrates outstanding use of electronic warfare procedures and equipment. Produced by Master Sgt. Sean Whelan.
[4] New unmanned vehicle gives Stryker Soldiers an eye in the sky Soldiers from the 56th Stryker Brigade are the first in the Iraqi theater to fly the Gas Micro Air Vehicle. The GMAV is unique among unmanned aerial systems because of its ability to hover and maneuver likes a helicopter. The system is about the size of a waste paper basket and can be assembled and ready to fly in three to four minutes. The GMAV flown by the 56th Stryker Soldiers is a prototype and lessons learned from missions in Iraq are applied to the production model currently under development.
[4] 656th Signal Soldiers keep the Stryker Brigade talking Soldiers from the 656th Signal Company, from Torrance, Pa., have the responsibility of keeping over 4,000 Stryker Soldiers connected with radio, telephone and internet. The 56th Stryker Brigade operates in a large area north of Baghdad working with Iraqi police and military providing security and civil capacity to this rural area of farms and villages. The 656th Signal Company has improved communications for the Stryker Brigade providing Soldiers with radio communications to every corner of the Taji region and as far south as Baghdad.
[4] Stryker Soldier Goes From Basic Training to Iraq in Less Than a Year Story about Pvt. 1st Class Jason Berry from Carlisle, Pa. joining the National Guard last September while his unit, Company B, 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry mobilized for Iraq. After Berry completed basic training, infantry and Airborne schools his unit had been serving in Iraq for over two months. Berry was told it was too late to join his Company in Iraq and he would have to wait at home until they returned. Not content to wait, Berry persisted until he was finally allowed to join his unit in Iraq. Produced by Sgt. Sean Whelan.
