Marines on Okinawa participated in the Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival course on Camp Hansen starting May 5. The weeklong period allows the Marines to hold swim qualifications for their respective units per annual training requirements. The course covered basic swim qualification instruction and advanced rescue and survival techniques above and below the surface of the water. The Marines are now certified to not only hold qualification periods but also to be able to individually respond to any hazardous scenario that might occur. The culminating event for the course was held offshore of Camp Schwab, where the certified rescuers’ final teaching was applied in the surf to ensure the Marines are able to operate in open water. Also available in high definition.
