Cadets from Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan gathered at Fort Knox recently to take part in the Tri-State Challenge hosted by the Bluegrass ChalleNGe Academy. The students competed in a variety of events including basketball, softball, chess, and a spelling bee among other events.
Cadets from Kentucky’s Bluegrass ChalleNGe Academy at Fort Knox and Appalachian ChalleNGe Academy from Harlan, KY were joined by cadets from Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy from Knightstown, IN and Michigan Youth Challenge Academy from Battle Creek, MI. The event has been a tradition between the Bluegrass and Hoosier Academies since 2018 and has grown since then.
Brig. Gen. Brian Wertzler, Kentucky’s assistant adjutant general, spoke to the cadets during the closing ceremony. He praised their accomplishments not just during the competition but during their time in the academies. He also said he was proud of their hard work.
BCA Director, retired Col. Dee Briscoe urged the cadets to never give up and to continue to work hard beyond their time in the academies.
“Always work hard, never give up, and fight until the end. Because if you believe in yourself and your teammates, you will succeed in all your future endeavors," Briscoe said.
Bluegrass ChalleNGe Academy was the overall winner. Battle Creek Challenge Academy was the overall runner up.
