Commander, Logistic Forces, US Naval Forces Central Command, parent command of Commander, Task Force 53, based in Naval Support Activity Bahrain, won the 2005 National Defense Transportation Association Military Unit Award earlier this month. The award honors outstanding military units, which accomplished outstanding service in transportation and logistics. As the primary logistics asset for deployed US and coalition units in the Navy's 5th Fleet area of operation, C-T-F-53 reduced the cycle time for supporting units in the Horn of Africa from 10 days to just six. CTF-53 also assisted in the transporting nearly 1,000 tons of food, blankets and other items to Pakistan, after that nation suffered a devastating earthquake last October. Produced by Petty Officer Ermish McQuirmish.
