This edition features a discussion about the the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. In its 50th year of operations, the JTWC provides tropical cyclone reconnaissance, forecasts and warnings in the 110 million square miles encompassed by the Pacific and Indian Oceans for the U.S. Department of Defense. Lt. Cmdr. Jeremy Callahan, the JTWC operations officer, will discuss the basics of tropical meteorology along with how the JTWC is able to complete their mission with the use of the latest weather satellite technology, improvements in computer modeling, and through partnerships with other agencies.
