Maj. Mark Weaver, a native of Fort Hood, Texas part of the 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, outlines the 25 day training cycle at the Kirkush Military Training Base in northern Iraq. Iraqi battalions rotate into KMTB, establish their own tent city and provide their own life support. The training begins with individual skills like rifle marksmanship and progresses toward fire team, squad and platoon level exercises culminating in coordinated live fire exercises. The training at KMTB emphasizes the Iraqi Army's national defense role shifting the internal security missions to Iraqi law enforcement.
