Mount Vesuvius made Herculaneum and Pompeii disappear in a flash, leaving ruins to be discovered and explored for only centuries later. The two popular cities were not the only archeological sites in the area. Just 2miles from Pompeii, in Oplontis, is the Roman seaside villa of Poppea, Emperor Nero’s second wife. The large site hosts beautiful frescos, fountains, gardens, and a massive swimming pool. Some say it is the pearl of Naples and MWR’s ITT makes it a fun day trip.It was covered in ash and persevered for use to explore its ruins. No, it not Pompeii or Herculaneum. Air Force Sgt. Joseph Vigil travels with ITT to the pearl of Naples.
