Milt Staley, 93, of Redding, Calif., waded though chest deep surf onto Utah Beach with the 4th Infantry Division that afternoon and later occupied foxholes dug by 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers. Afterward, Staley fought with the 90th Infantry Division and was wounded in combat. But coming back to France is not about reliving the horrors of war, he said. He first returned in 2011 and made friends with French people who he keeps in touch with on Facebook.
