A Civil Affairs Team from Camp Lemonnier completes Basic Sea Survival train-the-trainer course. Staff Sergeant Sara Weeks takes us to French Beach in Djibouti Africa for the story.

In the joint environment of Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti the Navy’s Maritime Civil Affairs and Security Training Command’s deployed Joint Maritime Civil Affairs team provided a train-the-trainer course on basic sea survival skills to members of the Djibouti Civil Affairs Battalion.

We learned how to inflate pants if you get stuck in the water how to take your pants off tie them into knots at the end. Different ways you can inflate them by throwing them over your head or splashing water which breaks air bubbles up and creates inflation inside the pants and you can turn them into a personal floatation device.
REPORTER
This training consisted of one day in the classroom and a one day practical in the water. Once the training is completed these members will be ready to train others.

We will potentially be partnering with the Djiboutian Navy to assist in teaching sea survival skills to them so that we can together strengthen our civil military operation skills. They will be able to take what we learn together and use that to teach local fisherman and the population the same skills.
