NEW YORK - Coast Guard Sector New York watchstanders broadcast a search-and-rescue degradation message to mariners Aug. 27, 2011, due to arrival of Hurricane Irene Aug. 28, 2011. Coast Guard units will be seeking safe haven upon the arrival of Hurricane Irene and will not be initially able respond to cases until after the storm has passed.
