Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, in South Portland, Maine, received a mayday call via VHF channel 16 at 8:47 a.m., Oct. 7, 2014. The operator of the 50-foot fishing vessel Tiger Shark reported it was taking on water near Thunder Hole, in Acadia National Park, and he was abandoning ship. The crew of the fishing vessel Reconnoiter responded, arrived on scene and safely rescued the fisherman.
