A B-26 bomber named “Hunconscious” was on its way to take out a railroad bridge with hundreds of other planes in 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. However, it was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire before reaching the target and listed as Missing in Action. The site of the crash, in Allmuthen, Belgium, was originally thought to be that of another plane. However, a local volunteer who regularly scours the countryside with a metal detector found evidence to link it to the missing plane.
