DAVID GAA, A FIELD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE EXPLAINS PREPARATIONS PUT IN PLACE FOR THE COMBINED READINESS EXERCISE, LIVORNO SHOCK, TAKING PLACE IN ITALY. HE SAYS THE EXERCISE IS DESIGNED TO FAMILIARIZE U-S ARMY PARATROOPERS WITH RIVER CROSSING TACTICS BY BUILDING A BRIDGE.
"WE ARE COSTRUCTING THE BRIDGE, IT IS IN TWO PHASES, THE CLASSROOM PORTION AND THEN WE'LL USE TWO DAYS TO CONSTRUCT THE BRIDGE AND TWO DAYS TO DISASSEMBLE THE BRIDGE."
WITH RECORD FLOODING FROM HURRICANE MATTHEW, NORTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARDSMEN BECAME A COMMON SIGHT IN AFFECTED AREAS. CAPTAIN JEREMY KEMPKA EXPLAINS THE ACTIVATION OF THE RAPID REACTION FORCE THAT HELPS THE COMMUNITIES WHEN DISASTER STRIKES.
"ALWAYS THE NATIONAL GUARD IS READY TO RESPOND. OUR UNIT WAS ACTIVATED TO COME OUT TO EASTERN CAROLINA TO HELP THE FLOOD VICTIMS AND THE ROADWAYS, INFRASTRUCTURES, KINDA RETURN THINGS BACK TO NORMAL."
