CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE ARMY, GENERAL MARK MILLEY VISITS SOLDIERS IN VICENZA, ITALY AND SAYS THAT GARRISONS ACROSS THE ARMY PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN ENSURING SOLDIERS HAVE THE PIECE OF MIND TO ALWAYS PLACE THE MISSION FIRST.
"SO IF YOU'RE MARRIED, AND YOU HAVE CHILDREN, THE NUMBER ONE CONCERN THAT YOU HAVE IS THE WELFARE OF YOUR FAMILY. SO GARRISON PROVIDES THAT WELFARE AND THAT'S FUNDAMENTALLY IMPORTANT TO THE READINESS OF THE FORCE BECAUSE YOU WANT THE SOLDIER TO FOCUS ON THEIR TASK."
SERVICEMEMBERS AND CIVILIANS COMPETED IN THE FORTY FIRST RUNNING OF THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON IN WASHINGTON D-C WHERE SPECIALIST SAMUEL KOSGEI FINISHED FIRST WITH A TIME OF TWO HOURS, TWENTY THREE MINUTES AND FIFTY THREE SECONDS. THE ROUTE STARTED AT THE PENTAGON AND WOUND THROUGH THE DISTRICT AND NORTHERN VIRGINIA ENDING AT THE MARINE CORPS WAR MEMORIAL NEAR ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY. THIS IS KOSGEI'S SECOND WIN FOR THIS MARATHON AND THE 4TH FOR THE ARMY OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS.
