SOLDIERS OF THE 511TH ENGINEER DIVE DETACHMENT CONDUCTED DIVE SUPERVISOR TRAINING AS A PART OF OPERATION DEEP BLUE. FIRST SERGEANT TYLER DODD SAYS THEY TESTED HOW INDIVIDUAL'S REACT IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.
"WE CREATE THE WORST POSSIBLE SITUATION FOR A DIVER TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE AND OUR SUPERVISORS ARE TESTED THEIR ABILITY TO MANAGE IT. THEY HAVE TO BE VALIDATED BY MYSELF AND THE COMMANDER TO BECOME FULLY QUALIFIED DIVING SUPERVISORS."
IN SOUTH CAROLINA, U.S. ARMY CENTRAL HOSTED MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR CAREER DAY WHICH, ACCORDING TO GUIDANCE COUNSELOR EDWIN MEEKER, GAVE THE KIDS A CLOSER LOOK INTO FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES.
"I THINK IT'S HIGHLY BENEFICIAL FOR THEM BECAUSE ANYTHING THAT EXPANDS THEIR HORIZONS, EARLIER ONE OF THE STUDENTS SAID SHE WASN'T EVEN AWARE OF MANY OF THE JOBS THAT WERE IN THE MILITARY."
