I’m Private First Class Troy Saunders with your Marine Minute
Starting January 1st Marines will be able to take the PFT and CFT more than once in order to improve their scores. Another change starting next year is that females will no longer have the option to do a flexed-arm hang. The weight standards will also change as Marines who score a 285 on both the PFT and CFT, will be exempt from weight and body fat limits. For more details on the updated fitness and weight standards go to fitness.Marines.mil.
Also happening in the Corps,
Marines with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted a training exercise in which they defended the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group. The Bataan Amphibious Ready Group consists of the USS Bataan, the USS Mesa Verde, and the USS Carter Hall. The unit is scheduled to deploy early next year.
Out in the Pacific,
Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit launched a full-scale amphibious landing exercise last week, off the coast of Djibouti in the Gulf of Aden. The month long training exercise named Alligator Dagger, consisted of 24 hundred Marines and sailors, testing their ability to quickly respond to potential crisis while also improving the confidence of America’s allies in the region.
