I'm Lance Corporal Taryn Escott with your Marine Minute.
Marines assigned to Special-Purpose, Marine-Air-Ground-Task-Force, Crisis-Response-Africa participated in a capabilities-exercise to demonstrate infantry-tactics to visiting Italian military leaders at a training site in Vizzini, Italy, Febuary 26th. The Special Purpose MAGTF is currently deployed in order to conduct crisis-response and theater-security operations in Europe and Africa.
Also in Europe,
U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force-Europe recently completed Exercise White Claymore in Norway. White Claymore is a U.K. Royal Marines-led training exercise that focuses on winter warfare.
On this day in Marine Corps history in 1967,
Private First Class James Anderson Jr. sacrificed his life in order to save his fellow Marines, by using his body to cover an enemy's grenade, in Vietnam. Pfc. Anderson was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, becoming the first African American Marine to earn the nation's highest military award.
