I'm Corporal Troy Saunders with your Marine Minute.
U.S. Marines and sailors with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit recently conducted ship-to-shore training in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility. The 22nd MEU is currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Operations with the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group, in support of naval operations ensuring regional maritime stability and security.
Also in the Corps,
Marines with Marine Rotational Force-Europe 19.1, alongside NATO allies and partner nations, are currently participating in Exercise Northern Wind 19 in the country of Sweden. Northern Wind is a high-intensity warfighting-exercise in cold-weather conditions that enhances participants collective ability to receive, stage, and integrate forces quickly into the European theater.
On this day in Marine Corps history in 1945,
Gen. A. A. Vandergrift, the 18th Commandant of the Marine Corps, became the first four-star Marine general to serve on active duty.
