In an effort to keep faith with Marines, the Marine Corps is providing those who need it a few more weeks or months of service so they can fully take advantage of any DoD transition programs/resources that may be temporarily closed or not functioning at full capacity due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts. These extensions will allow Marines who may need additional time to complete their transition requirements (e.g. final medical appointments, transition assistance programs, etc.) or to safely execute separation and retirement plans. I'M CPL BEN WHITTEN WITH YOUR MARINE MINUTE.
LET ME START BY SAYING STAY SAFE, PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING, AND WASH YOUR HANDS.
AN IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR MARINES WITH AN UPCOMING E-A-S OR RETIREMENT DATE; IF COVID-19 IS IMPACTING YOUR ABILITY TO CARRY OUT A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION, YOU CAN REQUEST AN EXTENSION WITHIN THE FISCAL YEAR. HERE’S HOW TO DO IT:
* O-5 AND O-6 COMMANDERS CAN GRANT EXTENSIONS TO MARINES UP UNTIL JUNE 30. TO GO BEYOND THAT DATE, REACH OUT TO YOUR CAREER PLANNER.
* MARINE OFFICERS SHOULD CONTACT THEIR MONITOR.
* IF YOU NEED TO MODIFY YOUR RETIREMENT DATE, CONTACT MANPOWER MANAGEMENT SEPARATION AND RETIREMENT.
* IF DEPLOYED, YOU CAN EXTEND WITHIN THE FISCAL YEAR IF YOUR E-A-S IS BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED RETURN DATE.
* MARINES MAY REQUEST SERVICE LIMITATION WAIVERS TO M-AND-R-A IF CURRENT E-A-S OR RETIREMENT DATE TAKES THEM UP TO SERVICE LIMITS.
AS THE CHALLENGES PRESENTED BY COVID-19 CONTINUE TO UNFOLD, THE CORPS IS WORKING TO REDUCE THE INDIVIDUAL IMPACT TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE INFORMATION, REACH OUT TO YOUR CHAIN-OF-COMMAND.
AND THAT’S YOUR MARINE MINUTE.
