A key event for Soldiers is "Lottery Day," on 9 December, when paratroopers from Fort Bragg line up early in the morning for the opportunity to receive a lottery ticket and if they want, donate a toy. Soldiers are not required to bring a toy to receive a lottery ticket. Soldiers MUST have their Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH), Identification card, Dog Tags and Hazardous Duty orders when they arrive. Positions on the manifest are chosen from the
lottery. The following day, those Soldiers who received winning lottery tickets will perform an airborne operation with a foreign jumpmaster.
The donation of thousands of toys for children and families in the Fayetteville, N.C., area just before the holidays represents the generosity of the Fort Bragg Soldiers participating in Operation Toy Drop.
