WoE has been held since 1974 the “Weekof the Eagles” created by Maj. Gen. John Cushman, commanding general of the 101stAirborne Division (Air Assault) who rebuilt division after Vietnam. After Vietnam the division was manned at 16% andcame up with this week to showcase new and never-before-seen tactics, trainingexercises each unit in the division demonstrated as a recruiting effort for thesurrounding areas of Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana. The event was sucha success the next year the Week of the Eagles was a celebration of the rebuiltand reborn division to Honor both the past and the future with a week of eventsconsisting of Air Assault demonstrations, open houses, veterans and sportingevents and has continued each year since 1974.

During this year’s WoE the 101stAirborne Division (Air Assault) is honoring its legacy Vietnam Veterans duringa Honorary Air Assault Badge ceremony. The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) became the first division in the U.S. Army to execute a division review, June 24, 2021. COVID-19 pandemic constrained how the Army conducts traditional military ceremonies since early 2020. The division has the highest vaccinated population in the Army, so the decision to conduct a full review was to reify the division cohesion.
