B-52 Stratofortress and B-2 Spirit bombers deploy to Royal Air Force Fairford, England, to exercise skillsets in a forward environment. These exercises validate the vital role RAF Fairford plays in projecting the Department of Defense's strategic bomber force to other areas of responsibility.
While at RAF Fairford, B-52s from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, will participate in BALTOPS 15 and SABER STRIKE 15, multi-national exercises in the Baltics designed to synchronize and integrate U.S. bomber capabilities with allied military assets and strengthen and improve interoperability while working toward mutual goals.
B-2 Spirit bombers from Whiteman AFB, Missouri, will practice hot-pit refueling and engine-running crew changes while at RAF Fairford to test the valuable skills of refueling the aircraft and changing air crew in a forward-deployed location.
Along with flying operations, U.S. and Ministry of Defence personnel will practice transitioning RAF Fairford from what is considered a “warm” status to an active installation. show less
