The Utah Air National Guard's Exercise Thanos is designed to train Airmen
and partner forces to plan and execute missions quickly in unpredictable
ways and employ airpower in a contested environment with an adversary in the
pacific.
This follows the doctrine outlined in AFD 1-21 for Agile Combat Employment.
In future conflicts we expect to avoid targeting, the Air Force will be
deployed in small multi-capable teams to possible austere locations to
recover and launch aircraft prior to being targeted by adversaries (in the
Pacific it may look something like island hopping).
The first event will create an environment to encourage the abilities of a
multi-capable airman (MCA). The MCA concept involves training Airmen to
accomplish tasks outside of their core Air Force Specialty. Specifically,
the UTANG will cross train crew chiefs and fuels personnel on multiple
platforms of aircraft and equipment (AH-64, UH-60, F-35, KC-135, and F-16).
The other part of this exercise is to perform a proof of concept with our
Air Control Squadron and the 19th Special forces, where aircraft are
controlled from a mobile command center (Polaris Military Razor). show less
