The U.S. Army has approved the awarding of the Purple Heart or the Defense of Freedom, a civilian counterpart medal, to the soldiers and civilians wounded in the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead and more than two dozen wounded in 2009.
Secretary of the Army John McHugh announced today that he has directed the United States Army to provide all possible benefits to victims of a 2009 attack at Fort Hood who were recently awarded the Purple Heart medal.
