Three hundred and seventy-eight years ago on December 13, 1636, the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in Boston ordered that the colony's militia be organized into three regiments. This day would be the birth of the National Guard, an operational force with a historic dual mission of protecting the homeland and defending the United States and its interests all over the globe. The Guard today is the world's most capable operational reserve force with the best trained, best equipped dual-mission forces in our history
