    Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit    

    The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) provide Geographic Combatant Commanders with forward-deployed, sea-based, expeditionary forces that can operate across the range of military operations. The three ships that compose the Makin Island ARG are the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), the amphibious transport dock ship USS Somerset (LPD 25) and the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22). The 15th MEU consists of the Command Element; the Aviation Combat Element, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced); the Ground Combat Element, Battalion Landing Team 1/4; and the Logistics Combat Element, Combat Logistics Battalion 15.
