The National Memorial Day Observance, hosted by the Department of Defense, recognizes and commemorates the fallen men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces every year on Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery. Prior to the annual observance, military bands perform a prelude in the Memorial Amphitheater and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington conducts a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier conducted.
