Exercise Noble Jump ’19 is one in a cluster of NATO’s exercises led by both the NATO Command Structure and NATO nations with allies and partners during the spring of 2019.
NATO is deploying troops to Poland. Noble Jump ‘19 is an exercise which will test NATO’s ability to deploy the land component of the NATO Response Force, specifically the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF). This exercise will move troops into the Zagan military training area in the southwest region of Poland. Noble Jump’19 is designed to ensure that NATO forces are trained and ready. It will be an important test, and a display of our collective capabilities.
Noble Jump 19 aims to improve NATO military readiness. It involves Poland as Host Nation (HN), with the support of some NATO regional actors such as the Multinational Corps North East (MNC-NE) and the NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) Poland. These units will play a crucial role facilitating the logistic deployment, in short notice, of the VJTF component.
The NATO Response Force is a central part of NATO’s defensive posture. The VJTF troops are part of the 2019 NATO Response Force. The NRF is multinational force made up of land, air, maritime and Special Operations Forces components, technologically advanced, that are rapidly deployable. The NATO Response Force provides collective defense and a rapid military response to an emerging crisis. In addition, it can perform peace-support operations, provide protection to critical infrastructure and support disaster relief. The NRF was created in 2002. Overall command belongs to Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
Noble Jump runs from May 24 through June 14, and is delivered in two phases. The first is an alert phase, which puts participating units on short notice to deploy. During this phase the readiness of the VJTF components will be increased throughout the review and simulated activation of the Crisis Response Measures (CRM). The second phase involves the logistic movement and deployment of the VJTF components from participating nations to Poland.
Noble Jump involves four key allies. Noble Jump 19 is a valuable platform to exchange best practices and work together to address crises. Poland will host the exercise, with Germany, Netherlands and Norway participating. They maintain high-end military capabilities and highly professional forces. The core part of this exercise will be the 1GNC: First German Netherlands Corps.
Noble Jump highlights the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force. The deployment of troops in this area is part of the Very High Readiness Task Force training. The VJTF is a technologically advanced, multinational force made up of land, air, maritime and Special Operations Forces components, that are rapidly deployable. It provides collective defense and a rapid military response to an emerging crisis. Following the Wales Summit in 2014, Allies decided to enhance the NRF by creating a Spearhead Force within it. The Very High Readiness Joint Task Force was formed to better respond to the changing security environment to the east and south of the Alliance’s borders. show less
