Beginning Aug. 22, 2026, the Icelandic Coast Guard will host the U.S. SIXTH Fleet-led Exercise Northern Viking 2026 (NV26). The nine-day event is designed to strengthen interoperability among NATO Allies to prepare for a variety of contingency operations.
Participating countries joining Iceland and the U.S. include: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Norway, and Netherlands. Forces provided by these Allied nations include multiple ships and aircraft, as well as hundreds of personnel ashore and at sea.
U.S. Air Force survival, evasion, resistance and escape specialists conducted open-water rescue and personnel recovery training alongside the Icelandic Coast Guard in the freezing waters off the coast of Iceland during exercise Northern Viking 2026, Aug. 28.
