The Government of the Philippines requested Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HA/DR) from the Government of the United States of America on Dec. 4, 2014, to support civil authorities in areas that were affected by the most recent typhoon. U.S. military forces were deployed to the Philippines to support humanitarian efforts in response to the natural disaster. Typhoon Ruby (international name Hagupit) made landfall on the southeastern shores of the Philippine islands during the morning hours of Dec. 6.
