Air Force General John E. Hyten was sworn in as the 11th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Nov. 21, 2019. In this capacity, he is the U.S. second highest-ranking military officer and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was commissioned in 1981 and graduated from Harvard University with a degree in engineering and applied sciences. His military career includes assignments in a variety of space and nuclear operations.
