Wideband Global SATCOM provides anytime, anywhere communication for
soldiers, sailors, Airmen, Marines, and international partners through
broadcast, multicast, and point-to-point connections. In January 2012,
Canada, Denmark, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and New Zealand signed a
multilateral Memorandum of Understanding with the United States, agreeing to
fund the procurement of the ninth WGS satellite. The agreement to cooperate
on the provision of global military satellite communications strengthens
alliances among the six partner nations, increases military satellite
communications capabilities, bolsters deterrence, fortifies resiliency, and
increases interoperability. The U.S. Air Force is scheduled to launch the
ninth Boeing-built Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite aboard a United
Launch Alliance (ULA) Delta IV Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) on March 18, 2017. The launch window opens at 7:44 p.m. EST and will remain open
for 65 minutes. show less
