Dobbins Air Reserve Base is currently serving as an installation support base for Hurricanes Irma and Maria relief operations in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), providing an air and logistics hub for relief efforts.
Reserve Citizen Airmen of the 94th Airlift Wing are working continuously to prepare medical equipment as cargo to travel via Air Force aircraft to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Dobbins will also serve as a federal coordinating center for patient reception as part of the national disaster medical system, a system that coordinates patient movement following a natural disaster. Dobbins received patients overnight from the U.S. Virgin Islands who were processed and transported to metro Atlanta medical facilities.
“Dobbins is strategically located to serve as an installation support base for disaster relief in the Southeastern U.S. and Caribbean,” said Col. Marty Hughes, 94th Mission Support Group commander. “We’re incredibly proud of the work our Reservists are doing to support relief efforts for those impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria; and, the partnerships with FEMA, the Department of Health and Human Services and all the agencies supporting these relief efforts has been tremendous.” show less
