The IWO ARG, led by embarked Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 8, consists of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships USS San Antonio (LPD 21) and USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28). Other commands embarked with the ARG include: Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26, Tactical Air Control Squadron 21, Fleet Surgical Team 2, Naval Beach Group 2, and the 22nd MEU.
The 22nd MEU Special Operations Capable is a fully composited Marine Air-Ground Task Force comprised of a Command Element; Aviation Combat Element, Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 263 Reinforced; Ground Combat Element, Battalion landing Team 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, which includes increased artillery and weapons capabilities; and Logistics Combat Element, Combat Logistics Battalion 26. show less
