On January 26, 2023, Marine Corps Installations Command will hold a ceremony to reactivate Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Blaz at Asan Beach. The base is named in honor of Brigadier General Vicente Tomas "Ben" Garrido Blaz, the first CHamorro Marine to attain the rank of general officer. MCB Camp Blaz was administratively activated on October 1, 2020 and is the first newly constructed Marine Corps base since 1952. The ceremony will honor the Blaz family, while also honoring the long and significant relationship between the island of Guam and the U.S. Marine Corps, which has endured since before the campaigns of World War II. MCB Camp Blaz plays an essential role in strengthening the DoD's ability to deter and defend, as well as strengthen the capabilities of our allies and partners for defense and regional security. The realignment of Marine Corps forces on Guam honors an international agreement with the Government of Japan and secures a Marine Corps posture in the Indo-Pacific region that is geographically distributed, operationally resilient and politically sustainable. show less
