Southern Seas/UNITAS 2015 - Southern Seas and UNITAS are U.S. Southern Command-sponsored annual collaborative deployments to Central and South America to enhance regional stability and increase interoperability through engagement with partner nations.
Aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) departed Japan May 18 and will complete a 52,064-mile, seven-month voyage to Naval Station Norfolk, Va., Dec. 17 after serving seven years as the U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier in Yokosuka, Japan.
Sailors assigned to aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), Carrier Strike Group NINE (CSG 9), Destroyer Squadron 23 to include USS Chafee (DDG 90) and USS McFaul (DDG 74), and embarked Carrier Air Wing TWO (CVW 2) completed UNITAS Atlantic (LANT) Nov. 25, the final exercise in their Southern Seas 2015 deployment.
