Six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers lost their lives in the Himalayan Mountains during a helicopter mishap while helping the people of Nepal on May 12 during Operation Sahayogi Haat, "Helping Hand." Six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers lost their lives in the Himalayan Mountains during a helicopter mishap while helping the people of Nepal on May 12 during Operation Sahayogi Haat, "Helping Hand." Four of the Marines are members of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469 and two are members of Marine Corps Installations Pacific Combat Camera. All six were deployed on a mission to bring relief supplies to isolated villages in Nepal after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated the region April 25. A second earthquake of 7.4 magnitude struck the region the day of the mishap. This page stands as a memorial to the fallen Marines aboard helicopter Vengeance 01 so others may survive.
