Southern Strike is a large-scale, joint multinational combat exercise that provides comprehensive tactical level training with emphasis on full-mission profile mission sets designed to prepare for the full spectrum of conflict. The exercise includes air dominance, maritime operations, maritime air support, precision engagement, close air support, command and control, personnel recovery, aero medical evacuation, and combat medical support scenarios to fully exercise participants capabilities.
The logo was was designed at the request of the exercise director for use in command and public information products, internal and external planning products, exercise awards and appreciation certificates, as well as participant morale items.
The logo design features: the Battlefield Airmen in the center, in this case represented by a Tactical Air control Party Airman; who surrounded by various Department of Defense aerial platforms representing the capabilities required to conduct full-mission profiles; blue rays demonstrating concentrated air combat and combat support power with tactical focus to the Battlefield Airmen; an outline of the exercise host state and sponsor, the Mississippi Air National Guard; all in the shape of a heater shield in the tradition of U.S. Air Force Heraldry principles.
