The digital rendering of the wall mural design was created for Marine Week Detroit to honor the Montfort Point Marines and the city of Detroit. One copy of the digital art was printed and given to the Montfort Point association and a second copy was given to the family of a fallen Marine depicted in the scene. The Congressional Gold Medal on the left represents the history of the trials and tribulations that the Montford Point Marines had to endure as well as their sacrifices that often went unrecognized such as the Battle of Iwo Jima. Against the medal shows the Montfort Point Marines transition from boot camp to Iwo Jima. The middle shows the famous flag raising atop Mt. Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The right side shows modern day Marines saluting those who served before. (U.S Marine Corps design by Sgt. Elize McKelvey)
