The Charleston District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, recently awarded the final contracts for the Charleston “Post 45” Harbor Deepening Project, which takes the harbor’s federal navigation channel from 45 to 52 feet deep. The project — scheduled to complete in 2022 — will make Charleston the deepest harbor on the east coast and enable the world’s largest ships to call on Charleston any tide, fully-loaded.
