The 2022 Earth Month theme is "Invest in our Planet." Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island invests in the planet by investing in resiliency, working with Ameresco to optimize efficiency and reduce reliance on the commercial energy grid through a combination of heat and power plant, solar, an advanced battery storage system and microgrid systems.
Completed in 2019. the 22-year contract has decreased water consumption by nearly 27%, while allowing MCRD Parris Island to disconnect from the commercial grid through onsite renewable energy production.
