220524-N-SS900-1001 SAN DIEGO (May 24, 2022) A layout for the damage control division aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). The purpose of design is for use as a poster of the famous term “Don’t Give Up The Ship!” by John Paul Jones with elements of a Vinson Sailor’s responsibilities during a damage control environment integrated in the shape of a fire axe. The command logo was placed in the center of the fire axe to represent how responsibilities can be all around the ship at once. The design is inspired by the Russian constructivist art style of bold contrasting colors, shapes and text. The poster brought awareness of the Chapter 13 assessment during Vinson’s 2022 planned incremental availability in response to the revised efforts of ship maintainability across the U.S. Navy to prevent further losses of naval vessels.
