TONITRUS E CEALO (tonay-troose eh chalo), or "Thunder from the Sky" is the long-standing motto for the now-137th Special Operations Wing. This patch heraldry was initially approved in 1952 for the 137th Fighter Bomber Wing following its assignment to the Oklahoma Air National Guard after World War II. It was used until 1961 when the wing changed over to an air transport mission and incorporated a patch with an aircraft flying over a polar projection of the globe with land masses and grid lines. The wing continued to operate under that insignia until 2021, when it returned to its original patch design. This patch connects the Airmen continuing the 137th SOW legacy with the wing's greatest generation. The blue sky and clouds symbolize the domain of air power central to the 137th SOW mission. The three lightning bolts symbolize the capabilities 137th SOW Airmen exert with high focus and unlimited energy in the air, on land and in cyberspace. The classic Air Force color scheme bonds them to their service and invokes the Air Force core values, highlighting our culture of pride, performance and professionalism.
