230725-N-BP862-1001 NORFOLK, Va. (July 25, 2023) This edition of the Herald celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) commissioning. The ship dedicates this edition to the tens of thousands of Truman Sailors, who served with pride to give life to the ship and our families, friends, and supporters. Contributions include sea stories and photos compiled from over three hundred comments, memories and photos posted by Truman alums in a closed USS Harry S. Truman Alumni Facebook group. The edition also includes a nod to the 75th anniversary of President Truman signing Executive Order 9981 to desegregate the military on July 26, 1948. The final page is a song written for the ships commissioning by USNR Capt. (ret) Carl Bolte, Jr., that was performed by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band during the commissioning ceremony and lost to the archives of the ship until it was rediscovered by Trumans media department this year. The layout and design align with the Truman Media Department's branding guide, designed by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Thomas Boatright, that provides guidance for the department's graphic design efforts.
